According to the American Academy of Dermatology, 116,500 new cases of melanoma will be diagnosed in the U.S. in 2008. Seventy-five percent of all skin cancer deaths are from melanoma. It is the most common cancer for young adults (25-29). If detected in its early stages, before it reaches the lymph nodes, melanoma has a 99% five-year survival rate.
