Michael Yon Speaks About Blessings, from Afghanistan

This Michael Yon blog post is from October, before the U. S. Presidential election, but now knowing the outcome, it’s just as relevant.

I became familiar with Michael Yon when I was writing to a soldier in Iraq. I wanted to try to understand what was really going on over there and since most of the traditional media originated from the Green Zone, I turned to blogs written by soldiers, Iraqi citizens and embedded journalists, like Michael Yon.

Attached to this blog is a photo of my copy of Michael Yon’s most famous photo. I took it in my living room while leaning it on the back of my couch. I’m sure that most of you are already familiar with it.

Michael is a very talented photographer, as well as a writer and his honesty gives an intriguing picture of what really goes on behind the scenes. Though, I’m not writing to any soldiers anymore, I still follow Michael Yon’s posts on his blog. Check out this photo essay for some amazing pics of kids.

Of particular interest to me, are his photos of Afghanistan. They tell a story, in and of themselves. With our new President turning the focus toward Afghanistan, I’m more interested in ever in understanding the situation over there. If you are interested too, do as I do, follow Michael Yon.
